BOUNTOU SPORT: A childhood game in the memories…

Do you remember this very playful game? We all played this sport as a child. We sang, we cheered, we jumped and spread our legs… That’s what Bountou Sport is all about!

Talents Sports in its mission of Discovery, Promotion and Eclosion of sports disciplines and sports actors, takes you into the world of the Bountou Sport Association (ABS) of Benin.

« Bountou is a traditional childhood game that used to be played in neighbourhoods and in the schoolyard, » said Galland Wongla , General Secretary of the Bountou Sport Association.

The observation made nowadays is that our adolescence has taken us away from this hobby which, unfortunately, has fallen into oblivion and the current generation no longer hears so much that, if nothing is done, it disappears from the collective memory for the benefit of the imported sports.

Aware of the stakes on the horizon, the Bountou Sport Association deigns to save « our » national heritage.

« … if nothing is done, it (Bountou Sport) disappears from collective memory in favour of the imported disciplines that largely occupy the field of playful activities » remarked the Secretary-General of (A. B. S.) WongLA Galland.

In its fight for the restoration of traditional sporting values, the Bountou Sport Association organizes the Bountou Olympiads. According to Galland Wongla, these Olympiads aim through a national tournament: to revive this traditional game for the benefit of girls and women of all ages, in order to safeguard it; to restore Bountou to the status of sports of maintenance; to engage the girls and women of Benin in a modernized practice of Bountou, an activity conducive to the maintenance of their physical form and their beautiful figure.

Needless to say, the Bountou Olympiads are in their 4th edition and will take place from August 24 to 25 at the General Mathieu KEREKOU Stadium
